My style and approach have been most effective with adults who are facing life transitions such as those seen in early adulthood and mid-life. Clients presenting with symptoms of depression, anxiety or generally feeling “stuck” benefit from my ability to offer perspective and normalize their experiences using trauma-informed care. Many of my clients express feeling more empowered and gaining clarity from our work together. They enjoy a newfound sense of inner security and safety, which is the foundation for emergence into thriving.

Common Presenting Issues

Anxiety and overwhelm
If you are feeling overwhelmed and ungrounded, together we can discover concrete steps you might take to alleviate some of the pressure you are under. I will help you learn skills and introduce new ways of thinking so you can feel more at ease.

Depression and grief
You may feel down and engage in negative self-judgment that keeps you from experiencing joy and lightness. If so, we can explore ways that old patterns of thinking and behaviors are obstacles to lightness and joy.

Life transitions
Over our lifetimes, we often come to crossroads where we end up feeling stuck. I can facilitate your reconnection with your truest essence and help you draft a roadmap so you can move forward with clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions about Therapy

Types of Service Provided by Your Therapist: I offer traditional in-office therapy for individual adults and couples using a variety of online and/or distance therapy formats. Treatment usually involves individual meetings with the therapist but may also include group treatment and/or involving family members or significant others in some individual sessions. All treatment will be conducted only with your consent.

What You Can Expect from Therapy: The duration of treatment is different for each person and can be difficult to estimate; I will address any concerns that you have about this. You as the client understand that phone and email sessions have limitations (as well as benefits) compared to in-person sessions, among those being the lack of “personal” face-to face interactions, the lack of visual and audio cues in the therapy process, and the fact that some insurance companies will not cover this type of therapy. Each individual session will be 50 - 55 minutes long.

Confidentiality: What you discuss with your therapist is kept confidential, or private, with some exceptions. The Notice of Privacy Practices, which you will sign before starting services, provides detailed information about how private information about your health care is protected and under what circumstances it may be shared.

We will agree to communicate using Simple Practice or another encrypted email/chat service determined to be suitable by Cheryl Reeves, LCSW. If you choose to email me from your personal email account, please limit the contents to basic issues such as cancellation or change in contact information. If you call me, please be aware that unless we are both on landline phones, the conversation is not confidential. Likewise, text messages are not confidential. I make every effort to keep all information confidential. Likewise, if we are working online together, I ask that you determine who has access to your computer and electronic information from your location. This would include family members, co-workers, supervisors, and friends. I encourage you to only communicate through a computer that you know is safe, i.e., wherein confidentiality can be ensured. Be sure to fully exit all online counseling sessions and emails. If we are unable to connect or are disconnected during a session due to a technological breakdown, please try to reconnect within 10 minutes. If reconnection is not possible, email to schedule a new session time.

Dual Relationships: Not all dual relationships are unethical or avoidable. However, I will never acknowledge working therapeutically with anyone without his/her written permission. In some instances, even with permission, I will preserve the integrity of our working relationship. For this reason, I will not accept any invitations via social networking sites, nor will I respond to blogs written by clients.

Telephone and Emergency Procedures: If you should need to speak with me between sessions, please call (510) 224-3590. Your call will be returned as soon as possible. Messages are checked daily (but not usually returned during non-office hours). If an emergency arises that requires immediate attention, please call the emergency National Suicide Hotline at 988 or dial 911. If a life-threatening crisis should occur, you agree to contact a crisis hotline, call 911 or go to a hospital emergency room.

Payment for Services: Payment for services must be made at the time of each session. Insurance may not cover online therapy. You may make payment via Venmo, Zelle, personal check, cash or by securely entering your credit or debit card information into Simple Practice

Cancellation policy: You will be billed at your full fee if you miss an appointment without providing at least 24 hours’ notice. Please contact me at either (510) 224-3590 or cherylreeveslcsw@gmail.com to reschedule or cancel your appointment.

Fees for Therapy:
